I think everyone who does styled shoots comes across one where they really have to push out of their comfort zone and try something new. For me, that was this shoot. Having a background in makeup and skin care has made the journey into hairstyling a long one. After having a reason to start working more on that skill got me comfortable enough to take on FOUR hairstyles along with four makeup looks. I truly wasn’t sure how it would pan out, but I spent a lot of time preparing, as much as one can, before this shoot.
The weather was overcast, and slightly muggy, so I knew that I wanted to do updo styles on our bridesmaids. They were my first models of the day so I wanted to make sure their looks didn’t fall. My first model, Savannah, had gorgeous brown hair, and it was long. I chose something fun and slightly Game of Throne inspired (who doesn’t love all the braids). For the second bridesmaid, Caite, I went with a loose chignon that would look slightly undone and almost effortless. The bridesmaids both have darker eye shadow to accent their large and beautiful eyes, but I wanted to keep the lip color simple and the same, to give a look that would compliment well in the photographs.
The bride models were a lot of fun, too. For Pamela, I wanted to go in the direction of traditional. Soft curls were set for a while. And I do mean A WHILE. I wanted to have them last as long as possible during the photo session. I did a gold eye shadow look and red lips. This is truly one of my favorites because I do believe that any woman can wear a red lip. My last model was Rachel, our talented florist for the shoot (and a few others I’ve worked on). I’ll be honest, we added extensions on her and I was able to achieve the twisty madness! It was a simple concept and the extra hair allowed me to give a modern, loose style that would become the centerpiece of the day, at least to me. Her makeup was soft, I didn’t really want to be overly dramatic and take away from the hair. Honestly, I think that her two piece dress was the perfect fit with the funky hairstyle.
